Dem convention delegates this weekend in La Crosse will take up resolutions that call for limiting voting investigations to bipartisan legislative committees and adopting a unicameral Legislature.

The resolution to limit voting investigations references Gableman’s 2020 election investigation. It also calls to limit the number of recounts to two, stating the party asking for a recount must cover the cost. The resolution also notes the cost to taxpayers, which has exceeded $1 million. Multiple reviews have found no evidence of widespread fraud in the election.

Dems will also discuss a resolution to combine the Assembly and Senate in an effort to prevent gerrymandering. The resolution proposes establishing a unicameral Legislature with half of the members elected in single-member districts by ranked choice voting and the other half elected from regional party lists.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court adopted maps drawn by GOP legislative leaders after originally picking lines proposed by Dem Gov. Tony Evers. The U.S. Supreme Court struck down that initial ruling, finding there wasn’t sufficient evidence to support Evers’ attempts to draw a seventh majority Black Assembly district.

Two other resolutions target the fossil fuel industry. One calls for supporting Evers’ clean energy plan, limiting fossil fuel projects in the United States and expanding green energy. An alternate resolution proposes opposing new and foreign fossil fuel infrastructure projects in the United States and supporting green energy. According to the resolution document, Dems will discuss combining the resolutions into one.

Another measure suggests a change to party rules to include nonbinary and gender non-conforming individuals at every level of leadership. Under current rules, the chair, vice-chair and second vice-chair must be a combination of either two men and one woman or two women and one man.

Other resolutions include:
*Decriminalizing drug possession;
*Recognizing statehood for Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico;
*Abolishing the tipped minimum wage;
*Banning conversion therapy for LGBTQ+ individuals; and
*Abolishing the Electoral College.
