DELPHI, Ind. — Closing arguments in the ongoing Richard Allen trial in Delphi are expected to begin Thursday morning.
After 17 days of evidence being presented, the jury will hear one last time from both the prosecution and defense starting at 9 a.m. Thursday before they determine whether or not Allen will be convicted. Allen is accused of killing 13-year-old Abby Williams and 14-year-old Libby German near the Monon High Bridge on Feb. 13, 2017.
According to previous reports, Judge Frances Gull told the jurors on Wednesday that they will hear five hours of closing arguments, as well as jury instructions from the Bench before they begin deliberating.
Carroll County Prosecutor Nicholas McLeland is expected to use some of his time first, reminding the jurors of the evidence they presented, including the bullet found near the bodies that an Indiana State Police expert testified came from Allen’s gun, along with multiple confessions from Allen to his family and a prison psychiatrist.
After the prosecution completes the first part of their argument, lead defense attorney Bradley Rozzi will present their evidence, attempting to convince that Allen is the wrong person. This includes that Allen’s DNA was not found at the crime scene and the girls’ DNA was not found on Allen’s clothes, knives or car.
The jury will then once again hear from McLeland, who is expected at that time to provide his final closing argument.
After the jury hears from both the prosecution and the defense, Gull will then provide final jury instructions before they begin to deliberate. According to previous reports, Allen could face 65+ years in prison if he is convicted.
