INDIANAPOLIS — A local single mother was able to give her small children the gift of Christmas thanks to a unique partnership this holiday season.
Natividad Bermudaz has been staying at the Salvation Army’s Ruth Lily Women and Children’s Shelter, which is located at 540 Alabama Street, for the last few months alongside her three young children.
This past year has been extremely difficult for Bermudaz as she came to the shelter as a victim of domestic violence while pregnant. The emotional strains also extended into financial hardships. Bermudaz admitted that she didn’t think she would have been able to afford to get her kids any Christmas gifts this year.
“It offers hope that the future can still be more brighter,” Bermudaz said.
In a partnership between Walmart and the Salvation Army, the children received several toys, clothes and shoes.
“I went from living in a shelter for three months, survived a domestic violence incident while being pregnant and here I am with a happy healthy family,” Bermudaz said while thanking the volunteers.
