RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) — The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating a death at the Pennington County jail early Wednesday morning.
According to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, a 44-year-old man was found hanging in his cell during a standard 30-minute round at the Pennington County Jail at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Authorities say life-saving measures were performed but the man was pronounced dead and the DCI is handling the death investigation.
The name of the inmate and the pending criminal charges are expected to be released Thursday.
