Phoenix Police say the use of a dating app provided an opportunity for a predator to attack an unsuspecting victim.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers were called to the area of 46th Street and Baseline Road about an attempted sexual assault Sunday morning at around 1:30 a.m. When they got there, they found a woman in her late 20’s accusing a man of attempting to sexually assault her. The victim also informed officers she is blind.

The victim told officers she met a man through a dating app and after several phone calls she invited him to her apartment. The man was later identified as Terrence Cooper. When Cooper arrived, he brought alcohol with him and started drinking. He then became verbally and physically aggressive.

The victim told Cooper she did not want to have sex, but Cooper persisted and told her he would not leave until they had sex. The victim tried to leave, but Cooper restrained her, hit her in the face and strangled her. The victim was able to fight back, get away and call for help. Cooper also took off.

A patrol officer spotted a man matching the description of the suspect in the area. Cooper was taken into custody and arrested.

The victim was found to have injuries consistent with being strangled.

Cooper was booked for multiple felonies including kidnapping and sex abuse.
