HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Hendricks County Sheriffs Office reported that one man was killed after an accident involving downed power lines on Wednesday night.

According to authorities, deputies were dispatched to an accident with injuries on County Road 75 north of County Road 200 in Danville at approximately 9:30 p.m.. At the scene, deputies reported seeing several downed power lines in the area blocking the roadway due to severe weather in the area. Authorities also reported seeing a pickup truck on fire with an unresponsive person on the ground near the vehicle. After power was shut off in the area, rescue personnel were able to pronounce the unresponsive driver of the vehicle dead at the scene.

During an investigation, deputies say they believe the vehicle was traveling northbound on County Road 75 when it struck downed power lines and came to a stop on the east side of the roadway. Deputies believe the driver exited the vehicle and came into contact with the live power lines.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 27-year-old Nathan Merritt, of Danville.
