Southern Miss cornerback Eric Scott Jr. was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft on Saturday. He was the 178th overall player selected.
Th Basehore, Kansas, native spent three seasons with the Golden Eagles and finished with 60 tackles, five interceptions, 16 passes defended and two fumble recoveries in games.

The positives
The 6-foot-2, 202-pound Scott is a big, physical cornerback that has some great athletic traits. Scott also showed his playmaking skills as a senior with two interceptions returned for touchdowns in 2022.
Scott also had a career-high 27 tackles and seven passes defended in 12 games.
The concerns
Scott is a projected Day 3 selection because of consistency issues. The cornerback sometimes takes bad angles to prevent tackles after loss and help in the running game. Scott also must show that he can fit various defensive schemes and utilize his size to press wide receivers at the line.
