SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Rapid Valley Fire Department was called to respond to a wildfire in Pennington County at 2 p.m. on September, 6.
The fire was driven by wind and burned through cured grass and wheat stubble along the 1600 block of Longview Drive, the fire department said in a news release.
Crews were able to control the fire at 68 acres. No citizens, firefighters or domestic animals were in reported injured.
“Everyone using, recreating, traveling or doing field work in our grasslands needs to be
on guard and make an effort to not create any source of ignition” Assistant Fire Chief Tim Kobes said in the release.
The Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by the New Underwood, Box Elder, Folsom, Ellsworth, Black Hawk, North Haines and Rapid City Fire Departments, along with South Dakota Wildland Fire, Pennington County 911 and the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
