Chicago Public Schools leaders removed Dunbar Vocational Career Academy Principal Gerald Morrow Friday due to an ongoing investigation into alleged misconduct made against him.

The school district also removed Director of School Culture Marva Nichols, according to a letter sent to Dunbar families and staff.

“To ensure a student-centered school environment, these individuals have been removed prior to the completion of the investigation,” wrote CPS Network 17 Chief of Schools Myron Hester in a letter sent Friday to Dunbar families and staff.

The letter offered no insight into what allegations prompted the removal of Morrow and Nichols from the Bronzeville high school. Hester named Ramona Outlaw as the school’s leading administrator, citing Outlaw’s past experience as a CPS high school administrator.

Morrow and Nichols will remain suspended until an investigation and due process hearings into the allegations against them are completed. Then, “a final determination will be made” on whether they can return to the school, Hester wrote.

“We are fully committed to supporting the Dunbar community through this challenging situation,” Hester said. “Please know that we are taking this situation extremely seriously, and we remain committed to providing Dunbar students with a safe, positive learning environment where they can reach their full potential.”
