INDIANAPOLIS — A woman is now facing charges more than two years after police said she stabbed a cheerleader following a basketball game at Arsenal Tech High School.

Romae Robinson, 20, is facing two felony counts of aggravated battery for her role in the attack. Her alleged accomplice, 20-year-old Kennedy Russell, was charged with one count of aggravated battery in October 2022.

According to court documents, the stabbing happened after a game between Arsenal Tech and North Central. Numerous witnesses told police that Russell had threatened the victim, telling them, “you’re gonna get stuck.”

The suspects and the victim got into a verbal altercation, and that’s when surveillance cameras captured Russell and Robinson chasing down the victim and stabbing them multiple times in the parking lot, according to court records.

Russell’s mother told investigators that Robinson was upset because the victim was made captain of the squad and she was not. She also told investigators that Robinson was “kicked off” the cheer squad because she caused “drama.”

During an interview with detectives, Robinson said the stabbing stemmed from “beef” on social media and told police she did not know the victim had been stabbed until later.

A witness told investigators that Russell claimed she was defending herself during the altercation.

According to court documents, the victim told police in a recent interview that Robinson stabbed them in the “crook” of their elbow, and they still has limited use of that hand. The victim also told investigators that Russell stabbed them in the chest, abdomen and the arm.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office reported that new evidence and testimony was what allowed them to file these charges more than two years after the attack.

“It’s OK to be mad,” said New B.O.Y founder Kareem Hines. “It’s OK to be upset. It’s OK to be agitated. It’s how you respond to being upset and agitated.”

Hines said this is another example of teens using violence to solve their problems and pointed out that, once again, social media was a catalyst. He said parents need to know what’s going on in their children’s lives.

“We have to make a connection with these kids before we start correcting them,” Hines said. “I think it’s truly important, and once we can make that connection with them, we can start reframing.”

Jail records show Robinson was arrested on Sunday but made bail on Monday.
