The general public can now request court calendars from the South Dakota Unified Judicial System website, as well as from county clerk of courts offices.

State Court Administrator Greg Sattizahn says court calendars can be accessed up to 10 working days in advance.

Additionally, Sattizahn says people can use the Find a Court Date feature to find when they need to appear in court for criminal, civil and family cases by party name or by case number. He says the calendars include most of the case information, but specific charges are not listed.

Sattizahn says the Public Access Calendar makes it easier for people to keep track of what’s happening in their local area or across the state.

Sattizahn says the search feature is for criminal, civil and family type court records open to the public. He says certain records may not be available in accordance with federal and state statutes and the rules governing the Unified Judicial System or by court order.

Sattizahn says the requester will receive the court calendar via email (as a pdf or csv file). The file will include defendant’s first and last name, case number, case name, location, court date, court time, hearing type, plaintiff’s lead attorney, defendant’s lead attorney, and court session time frame. A calendar can be requested for one date at a time using the current date or one of the next nine business days.

Although every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of court calendar information, Sattizahn says there may be circumstances preventing the timely entry of information into the system. If a search does not show any results, it does not necessarily mean a case date is not scheduled. He says those with additional questions regarding any of the hearings provided on the calendar should contact the clerk of courts office in the county where the case is being heard.
