SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — Dry skies are once again with us across KELOLAND with cooler temperatures to start this Friday. Warmer weather is around the corner as summer heat returns next week.

Highs yesterday stayed in the 70s for much of KELOLAND. Sioux Falls cooled to 77 for a high, about 10 degrees cooler than the day before.

Cooler air will continue to move into the Upper Midwest the next 24 hours. We even have frost advisories tonight around Duluth, MN.

Dry weather headlines are getting worse in western South Dakota. The drought monitor has once again expanded, with a 6 percent increase in drought coverage in the past 7 days.

The forecast will stay dry for several days. Temperatures this afternoon will top out in the 70s. Expect lots of 40s East River tonight, with 50s in western SD. We expect a mix of 70s and lower 80s on your Saturday afternoon.

Notice the lower 40s tomorrow morning just north and east of Sioux Falls.

Temperatures are looking much warmer by early next week. 90s will be expanding in western KELOLAND and elevated fire risk will be a problem.
