EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. — Today, Rebecca Cooke for Congress (WI-03) announced that the campaign has raised over $200,000 in just 24 hours since winning the August 13th primary election.
The day-long outpouring of support follows the campaign’s competitive primary in which Cooke won 17 of 19 counties and by a commanding 9-point margin districtwide. With an average contribution of only $63, the fundraising surge is powered by grassroots supporters, a clear demonstration of the broad foundation of Cooke’s people-focused campaign.
“We received incredible support at the ballot box in the primary, and I’m humbled by the overwhelming energy we have seen in the hours since leaving it all on the field. Now, we’re shifting gears to build upon that base of support and raise the resources needed to take on Derrick Van Orden this fall. While his warchest is stuffed to the brim with special interest dollars and corporate cash, our coalition is powered by hardworking Wisconsinites and grassroots supporters who agree we deserve better in Congress,” Rebecca Cooke said.
Cooke was named Thursday to the DCCC’s ‘Red-to-Blue’ list, signaling significant national interest in this highly-watched race. Recent polling shows vulnerable incumbent Derrick Van Orden underperforms a generic Republican by five points and is virtually tied with a generic Democrat, driven largely by his weakness with the very independent voters he needs to win. These same rural voters are exactly who Cooke appeals to, a testament to her strength as the nominee in the general election.
