National Parks List By State
What Is A National Park?
A national park is a protected area, designated by the federal government for the preservation of its natural environment, wildlife, and historical significance. These areas are set aside for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of current and future generations, emphasizing conservation and access to nature.
The inception of the U.S. national park system dates back to 1872 with the establishment of Yellowstone National Park, the first of its kind not only in the United States, but also in the world. This groundbreaking decision sparked a global movement to protect natural wonders, leading to the creation of the National Park Service in 1916.
Today, the state with the most national parks is California, which has nine national parks. Hot on its heels is Alaska, with its eight national parks, and Utah, which has five.
Use the list on this page to explore the amazing national parks of the USA.
