The race to fill the Congressional seat currently occupied by Republican Andy Biggs is officially on, as the first candidate to file a statement of interest has officially launched his campaign.

Travis Grantham, a 3rd generation Arizonan, launched his campaign for Arizona’s 5th Congressional District with an introductory video that played up his record as a conservative lawmaker in the Arizona State House, his success as a businessman, and his continuing service as a combat veteran who serves in the Arizona Air National Guard, where he holds the rank of Lt Col.

Grantham takes a tough tone when it comes to how he views his next mission as a member of Congress, declaring his intent to take on America’s domestic enemies in D.C. “I took an oath to defend our nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I’ve fought around the world against our foreign enemies, now I’m ready to take on our domestic enemies in Washington D.C.” says Grantham in his video.

Grantham is considered a serious front-runner for the seat because of his close personal friendship with Andy Biggs, who supported Grantham for the Legislature when Biggs left the Legislature to run for Congress, and because of Grantham’s long-standing ties to President Donald Trump. Grantham and his brother hosted one of Trump’s earliest rallies at Phoenix Mesa Gateway Airport in the company’s aircraft hangar, and hosted another nighttime rally in 2018.

“Voters want to know they can trust you when you say you’re conservative, you’re MAGA, you’re pro-Trump, and all the rest, and Grantham can prove he’s the real deal on all of those things.” said one Arizona politico when discussing the race. “He has some personal wealth he could use for the race, but he needs to go out and raise a big number now, so that he can afford to tell his story to the voters, because it is a good one.”

According to a press release from Grantham’s campaign, he played a key role as a state lawmaker in achieving a number of conservative goals, “including Universal School Choice, a low flat state income tax, Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform, Arizona’s first anti-grooming law, and numerous pro-job and anti-regulatory reforms.” The release also said that Grantham had “a 100% pro-2nd Amendment, pro-family, and pro-life voting record.”

The primary election will be held in August of 2026.
