The November midterm elections are just five months away, and make no mistake about it, Democrats are scared. And while up until now they may have whispered about the possibility amongst themselves, even the liberal media is forced to speak up.

On Monday, CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten appeared on “The Lead” with host Jake Tapper. It was here that Tapper and Enten were forced to entertain the unthinkable: a massive landslide for Republicans.

History Favoring GOP

Jake Tapper began by asking Enten, “If you’re a Republican running for re-election, or trying to unseat a Democrat, things are looking pretty good, right?” Enten then proceeded to give Tapper the “bad” news.

“I would say they’re looking very good from the historical context. Basically, I took the best Republican positions on the generic congressional ballot at this point in midterm cycles since 1938, that generic ballot basically is, ‘Would you vote for the generic Republican or generic Democrat in your district?’ And guess what, since 1938, the Republican two-point lead on the generic congressional ballot is the best position for Republicans at this point in any midterm cycle in over 80 years. It beats 2010, when Republicans were up a point.”

Enten then tried to soften the blow for Tapper and CNN viewers by reminding them the election was still months away, and that history is not always an accurate predictor:

“Now, of course, the election is not being held tomorrow, and we’ll see. Sometimes history isn’t always prologue, but my estimate for the 2023 House makeup, if the election were held today, which again, it isn’t, we still have five months, five months from tomorrow, would be Republicans, 236 seats to 241 seats.”

It’s Joe’s Fault

Tapper brought up Biden’s disastrous approval ratings, saying, “A lot of the Democrats’ problems, it seems, can be linked back to the President right, who is severely under water.”

Enten agreed, and also pointed out that Biden’s approval rating on the economy saying, “Joe Biden at minus 26 points. That is the lowest, tied for lowest of any president in the last 40 plus years.”

Who is he tied with? Jimmy Carter.

Dragging Down The Party

As the crises in the Biden White House mount, Joe Biden’s approval rating continues to fall. A May Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Research poll showed that two-thirds of Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy. On immigration, just 38% approves of Biden’s handling of the southern border.

Joe Biden and Democrats are also souring some of the party’s most reliable voting blocs as well. In the same poll, just 26% of Hispanic voters approved of Biden’s job performance.

CNN’s Chris Cillizza was ahead of Tapper and Enden and had already begun to express fear for Democrats

While immigration remains an important issue for voters, in Texas, some key congressional border districts are on the verge of flipping from Democrat to Republican, with several Hispanic women who are the GOP nominees.

Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX), when talking about the possibility of Democrat House seats being flipped from blue to red in Texas congressional races: “It really will be a self-inflicted tragedy.”
