SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — It was another hot and humid day in southeast KELOLAND, but we expect the temperature to be much cooler for the rest of the week, with limited sunshine.
With temperatures in the 70s for the rest of the week, we’ll have more clouds than sun. This is because of what is known as “destructive sunshine”.
As the sun heats the earth, air rises. As it rises it cools and eventually forms clouds as it condenses. This is called the condensation level in the atmosphere. On days when we expect cooler-than-average temperatures, the condensation level is lower, so air doesn’t have to rise as far in the atmosphere to get clouds to form.
You may notice that the clouds are lower over the next several days, that’s because of the lower condensation level.
Depending on how much moisture is available, scattered showers and thunderstorms can also develop during days of destructive sunshine.
And we do have those scattered chances for rain in the forecast.
