INDIANAPOLIS — For the first time ever, Chip Ganassi Racing will be hosting an exclusive garage sale with all kinds of IndyCar memorabilia.
“Other teams have done it, [but it’s] the first time for us,” said Mike O’Gara, the Director of Operations with Chip Ganassi Racing. “I think it’s a good opportunity to give back to fans.”
The unique garage sale is dedicated to racing fans across the Hoosier state and beyond.
“Now is your chance to own a piece of a race car, a wheel, a tire, maybe a crew uniform, something to hang in your den, your man cave or to gift to someone who is a race fan,” O’Gara said.
Starting bright and early Saturday, December 14, fans will get a chance to explore hundreds of racing memorabilia items, many of which cannot be found anywhere else.
“There are pieces of bodywork from different sponsors, different eras, and different drivers,” O’Gara said. “Some of our current drivers like Scott Dixon and Alex Palou, some of their crash parts are here and available.”
A majority of items will range from $5.00 to $2500. That includes select bodywork, helmets, crew uniforms, stickers and decals, but the most sought-after item will likely be the drivers’ firesuits.
“I think the drivers’ firesuits are the biggest thing,” O’Gara said. “It has the driver’s name on it and all of our logos. Some people want them for sentimental value, maybe they attended the 2019 Indy 500 and they want a firesuit that was worn at that race or maybe it’s your son’s favorite driver and we happen to have one of their firesuits left over.”
While many IndyCar fans will be finding the perfect holiday gift, it’s also a chance to help local kids’ holiday wishes come true.
“We are hosting a toy drive for the local YMCA this year,” O’Gara said. “If you bring a toy unwrapped when you come shop, you will get a special pack of our Chip Ganassi Racing trading cards that you can’t just buy at your local Target or Walmart. It’s a little special gift for contributing to our toy drive.”
And although this is just the first Chip Ganassi Racing garage sale, this will likely not be the last.
“I am anxious to see how well it goes and that will gauge interest for future events like this for us,” O’Gara said.
The event officially kicks off at 7:00 a.m. Saturday morning and goes until 12:00 p.m. It will be located at the Chip Ganassi Racing’s Indianapolis shop located at 7777 Woodland Drive.
