SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Sioux Falls man is in the Minnehaha County Jail accused of rape, sexual contact with a child and child abuse.

According to court papers, Orangie Johnson raped and assaulted a 12-year-old child in early April in Sioux Falls. Johnson allegedly told the victim he would purchase a cell phone for them in exchange for touching private parts of the body.

But Johnson wasn’t arrested in South Dakota. Instead, the Chicago Police Department arrested him on Sept. 9 in Illinois. In Sioux Falls, police department spokesperson Sam Clemens highlighted the value of a forensic interview Thursday.

“It’s not detectives that are doing that,” Clemens said. “It’s people that have specific training. So we have somebody local; Child’s Voice does that forensic interview in Sioux Falls. This forensics interview took place in another jurisdiction closer to the victim’s residence.”

And this delicate interview is set up to protect kids from any further abuse.

“One of the benefits of using that forensic interview is they’re getting information from the victim in a way that the victim doesn’t have to relive or go through those situations, those circumstances again,” Clemens said. “And so the idea behind that is really to protect the children victims as much as we possibly can.”

Johnson appeared in a Minnehaha County courtroom Thursday where a judge gave him a one hundred thousand dollar cash bond. The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office had posted on social media in August that it was looking for information on where Johnson was.
