FULTON COUNTY, Ind. — A man from Chicago was arrested this week in northwestern Indiana after driving more than 100 mph while fleeing from law enforcement.
A deputy with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a vehicle near County Road 500 South and US 31 around 10:51 p.m. Tuesday in Fulton County for unspecified traffic infractions.
FCSO said the driver of the vehicle, identified as 36-year-old Derrich Moore, Jr., ignored the deputy and allegedly drove away, initiating a pursuit that continued south to Miami County.
Deputies with the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana State Police troopers provided assistance, with troopers placing stop sticks in an attempt to end the pursuit.
The stop sticks forced the suspect’s vehicle to slow down before it eventually came to a stop at the median near US 31 and Miami County Road 100 North, FCSO said.
Moore was detained without further incident and was brought to Woodlawn Hospital for medical treatment.
The 36-year-old was arrested and received the following preliminary charges:
- Resisting law enforcement with a vehicle
- Operating a vehicle never having received a license
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with endangerment
- Reckless driving
- Aggressive driving
- Possession of marijuana
- Possession of a narcotic drug
- Criminal recklessness
