The Jan. 6 committee is unlike anything seen since the Watergate investigation. This is because Republicans are playing a significant role in running it.
Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois are doing a major part of the questioning. These Republicans know what they are up against. They know the tactics of their party. That is why they showed a map of the White House and the proximity of Cassidy Hutchinson’s office to the Oval Office. They knew the right wing would attack her and say she was just a coffee girl or some version thereof.
They also showed multiple images of Hutchinson with former President Donald Trump to discourage attacks saying she is fake and never worked there. The Democrats would not anticipate the crass and disingenuous moves by the right-wing media and Trump’s followers.
Cheney knew this because she and most Republicans would have done this. She knows that attacking and discrediting a witness is what the GOP would do immediately.
I am not a fan of Cheney and her politics, but she is playing hard ball. Democrats, take notice. There is no moderate way to deal with an unethical and deceptive party.
Democrats need to be united and not afraid to make bold moves, like eliminating of the filibuster. The GOP will do it if they can to get a ban on abortion passed. Sen. Mitch McConnell would make up a policy and declare the filibuster gone while Democrats cry and call it unfair.
