INDIANAPOLIS — One local woman is getting recognized by the popular Cheez-It snack during her cancer treatment.

Meet Bernie Price, also known as the Chemo Cheez-It Queen, at Franciscan Health.

She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer back in August of 2022. After her first treatment, all she wanted was a bag of Cheez-It and since then it’s been her snack of choice during chemotherapy.

Now, she’s on her third round of chemotherapy and Monday will be her 17th treatment.

“Every time I went in, they got to know me and when I would get in the hub, they would automatically bring me Cheez-It,” Price said. “When I go for treatment, that’s how they greet me. ‘Hey, the Chemo Cheez-It Queen is here.”

Kellogg Company, owner of Cheez-It, heard about Price and has since been supporting her along her cancer journey.

“I got a poem from them with more swag that said, ‘Roses are red, violets are blue, we know you love Cheez-It, and we love you.’ So, they are going to continue to follow my journey. It’s just been fun!”, Price said.

She is now sharing her love of Cheez-It with all of the staff and patients at Franciscan Health.

I have this Cheez-It shirt, two Cheez-It hats, two Cheez-It blankets, a Cheez-It bag, and five pairs of Cheez-It socks,” she said. “I have quite a bit of swag but it’s fun. It’s all fun.”

Price is also using her Cheez-It fame to support and raise money for a brand-new food pantry going into the cancer center at Franciscan Health. It’ll be named in her honor and will be known as the ‘Right Price Pantry.’ To support the cause, donations can be made by calling (317) 528-1078.
