Chandler Police Department officers are investigating a murder suicide in the 3900 block of W. Monterey St. in Chandler that resulted in the death of an unborn baby.
According to the Department, on May 31, just after 1:00 a.m., a 911 call was received from what appeared to be in an intoxicated man, 38-year-old Kevin Holmberg, who was uncooperative and refused to provide his address to police. Officers responded and after conducting a search, were unable to locate anyone in need of emergency assistance.
Soon after additional information was received, that indicated the Katherine Holmberg, age 41, may be in danger at the couple’s home. Family members also called 911 to report an unknown incident taking place within the apartment.
Responding officers surrounded the area and just after 2:00 a.m., Kevin Holmberg exited the residence, armed with a firearm. Within a few minutes he shot himself outside the residence in a view of the officers. Once the officers enter the residence to check on the victim, they found her deceased from a gunshot wound, which is believed to have been inflicted by Kevin Holmberg.
Katherine was pregnant.
There was no one else at home at the residence when the incident occurred.
