Skies are turning cloudy this Sunday morning with temperatures upper 20s and lower 30s throughout central Indiana. The weather is quiet this morning, but there is going to be a chance for passing flurries and patchy freezing drizzle this afternoon and evening.
A storm system will track across the Great Lakes today, and a cold front will eventually slide over central Indiana overnight. Ahead of the boundary, a wave of light snow/freezing drizzle is going to pass over the state. This could result in a few slick spots, especially north of I-70 later this afternoon. Just a reminded, it doesn’t take much snow or freezing drizzle to create tricky travel conditions.
The chance for freezing drizzle drops by midnight and skies will remain mostly cloudy. Lows are going to fall into the teens by tomorrow morning. Kids at the bus stop on Monday will need to wear layers because there is a chance for single digit wind chill values. Temperatures will gradually fall throughout the day on Monday and should drop back into the teens by the afternoon. However, cloud cover will decrease, and skies should turn partly cloudy to mostly sunny.
On Tuesday, there is a chance for scattered snow showers as another “clipper” system quickly passes over the Ohio Valley. This wave could produce minor snow accumulations (around 1” based on model guidance Sunday morning). We will continue to monitor the latest trends for you.
The bigger story will be the tumbling temperatures behind Tuesday’s system. Central Indiana will experience another arctic blast as lows sharply drop below zero early Wednesday morning! You can expect highs in the teens Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Temperatures will begin to recover by Thursday.
