SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Assuming a traveler can’t count on a sleigh and some reindeer to get them from point A to point B, travel around the holidays can be a little dicey. The mother-daughter duo of Maria and Sofia Luna from Sioux City, Iowa were on their way Thursday to a much warmer location than the North Pole… or Sioux Falls, for that matter.
“We are headed to Vegas!” Sofia said at Sioux Falls Regional Airport.
It’s a birthday gift from Sofia to Maria, and it was off to a good start.
“It seems like our flight’s on time,” Maria said.
Dhiraj Thapa of Nepal was set to fly Thursday from Sioux Falls to Minneapolis, where snow interrupted air travel, per WCCO News. But as of late Thursday morning, Thapa’s flight out of Sioux Falls was on time. Flying isn’t his preferred way to travel; he was set to take a bus from South Dakota to Michigan.
“It just got canceled yesterday evening,” Thapa said.
Whether in a bus or plane, at least he’s inside; he’s not used to this temperature.
“Look at me- I’m wearing one jacket, two jackets, t-shirt … and I’m still feeling cold,” Thapa said with a smile.
And it’s a similar vibe with the Lunas. Even if their plans are snarled by something less-than-ideal, they’re going to make the best of it.
“It’s an adventure,” Sofia said. “Let life take us.”
“I mean, if we get delayed, we’ll make something out of it here,” Maria said.
