The Cardinals should be getting a piece of their offensive line back soon.
Coach Jonathan Gannon said Wednesday morning that the team is opening the practice window for starting right tackle Jonah Williams. Williams has been on Injured Reserve since hurting his knee in Week 1.
Since Williams’ injury, Kelvin Beachum has been starting at right tackle, although an injury also led to a start by Jackson Barton for one game. The Cardinals have 21 days — Nov. 20 — in which to activate Williams to the roster, although he could be activated as soon as this weekend.
The Cardinals host the Bears and then the Jets before having their bye week in the next 21 days.
The Cardinals are already missing right guard Will Hernandez, who suffered a season-ending knee injury. Trystan Colon and Isaiah Adams have been a combo replacement there.
Williams was injured on the final play of the first quarter in Buffalo, although thanks to the Cardinals’ furious start to the season he was in for 22 offensive snaps.
“He’s very technique-sound, he’s strong, he’s smart, he plays with good pad level,” Gannon said. “He didn’t play much but he played well, the snaps that he played.”
