INDIANAPOLIS — Caitlin Clark made WNBA history on Saturday.

During Indiana’s 83-78 win over the New York Liberty at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Fever’s point guard became the first rookie in WNBA history to record a triple-double.

Clark hit the mark during the fourth quarter against the New York Liberty. At the time, she had 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. She finished the game with 19 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds.

Clark is also the first player in Indiana’s franchise history to record a triple-double.

Clark, who was picked first overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Fever, was one of four players to score in double figures for Indiana on Saturday. Center Aliyah Boston, forward NaLyssa Smith and guard Kelsey Mitchell scored, 18, 12 and 14, respectively.

The strong effort from Boston, Smith, Clark and Mitchell helped Indiana counter the solid offensive performances New York got from Sabrina Ionescu, Breanna Stewart and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton. The trio scored 56 of the Liberty’s 78 totals points as Ionescu, Stewart and Laney-Hamilton dropped 22, 14 and 20, respectively.

Indiana is now 9-13 overall this year. The Fever have gone 5-4 at home.

The win helped the Fever stay in the WNBA playoff picture. Indiana currently has the eighth-best record in the league and the fourth-best record in the Eastern Conference.

In the WNBA, eight teams make the playoffs. The squads that qualify for the postseason have the best eight overall records in the league, regardless of conference.

Despite the loss to the Fever, the Liberty still have the best record in the WNBA (17-4). If the season ended today, Indiana and New York would play each other in the first round of the playoffs.

Saturday’s win is also the Fever’s first against a team with a winning record in 2024. After starting the season 1-8, Indiana has gone 8-5 in its last 13 games.

The Fever are slated to play again on Wednesday. They’ll host the Washington Mystics at Gainbridge Fieldhouse at noon.
