INDIANAPOLIS — Two business owners on the near east side of Indianapolis are cleaning up after their shops were hit by gunfire.

Police responded to shots fired at 10th Street and Rural Street early Friday morning. They found a couple businesses had been riddled with bullets. Now, those shops are looking for whoever is behind it.

It is business as usual at Sam’s Square Pie. Customers are still enjoying their daily slice of pizza, but that’s not how the morning started for owner Jeffrey Miner.

“I walked in and glass was all over my building,” Miner said.

There’s more shattered glass one door over at Gomez BBQ. Wooden boards now cover some of the windows at both shops. Despite the damage, Miner said it could have been worse.

“I’m glad nobody was here,” he said. “Nobody got hurt. It’s just more the headache of having to clean everything.”

Now, Miner is left wondering why it happened in the first place.

“I don’t know what it was,” Miner said. “Was it kids sending a message? Was it a prank? Who knows. Guns are everywhere. They’re all over the street.”

Miner said some crime occasionally occurs near his business, and he said it should not be that way.

“We need a better police presence in this alley way here,” Miner said. “And the drug dealers can’t just open-air market, because it’s pretty much open-air drug market right across the street.”

As he keeps serving each pie one box at a time, Miner hopes police can track down whoever shot into his restaurant. In the meantime, Miner has a simple message for those behind it:

“To the punks that did it, we’re not going anywhere,” he said.

Police are still investigating this incident. If you have any information about the case, you can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.
