BROWNSBURG, Ind. — Bryan Herta Autosport is moving out of its Speedway location and into a new home in Brownsburg.
Indianapolis 500 fans will know BHA from Dan Wheldon’s second Indy 500 win in 2011 and Alexander Rossi’s win in partnership with Andretti in 2016. Mementos from those victories now hang in the new Brownsburg facility.
“We’re still settling in really, because we’ve been frantically moving in over the last three to four weeks,” said Philip Howard, the team manager at BHA.
Howard said the new facility has double the space of their old home.
“We got more room for the cars, we’ve got the trucks in the other side of the workshop, which is good,” Howard said.
Brownsburg Town Council President Travis Tschaenn said it’s been a long road to make this happen.
“I think we’ve been working with the Herta team for nearly five years to make this come to fruition,” Tschaenn said.
Tschaenn said adding another racing team to the city is a point of pride.
”Anytime you can capture a big name in the sport, it’s a benefit to your community,” Tschaenn said. “Bryan Herta has been a great partner and I believe he will continue to be a great partner. When you get people like that in your community, not only is it good as an economic driver, but they always tend to give back to the community.”
For Bryan Herta Autosport, the new home in Brownsburg can allow them to grow.
“For the future, we’re trying to expand into other projects, which we’re working on and we’ll need the space if everything goes to plan,” Howard said.
Howard said the team would love one of those projects to be INDYCAR or IndyNXT, but Howard knows it’s a competitive field.
“It’s no good just trying to attempt to go into INDYCAR without being fully set up for it, which is what we’re doing,” he said. “If we get the right opportunity, we’ll do it for sure.”
In recent years, BHA has raced in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Series and won several championships. The banners on the garage walls in their new home show them off.
Thomas said that track record shows everyone they mean business in whichever direction the team expands.
“I think anybody looking at us can see when we do something, we do it properly, so, so far, we’ve been successful with everything we do,” Howard said.
