SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Two buildings adjacent to the Brost’s Fashions retail store that was destroyed in the Monday fire have been temporarily condemned, the city of Brookings said in a Facebook post on Friday.
A structural engineer needs to evaluate the integrity and safety of those buildings. The two buildings are 320 Main Ave. to the north of Brost’s and 314 Main Ave. to the south of Brost’s.
Several businesses continue to evaluate the extent of the fire damage.
The fire was reported at about 5:10 a.m. Monday. The building burned and collapsed.
“None of the businesses were open, but the apartments were filled with occupants that had to be rescued and also evacuated from their apartments by the fire department and the police department,” Brookings Fire Chief Drake said on Monday.
The city said in its post that efforts to provide volunteer support to those impacted by the fire were underway. The Downtown Brookings Facebook page and website have more information.
