Bristol Motor Speedway is set to unveil its plan to host a football game between Tennessee and Virginia Tech in 2016. The announcement is planned for later Monday morning, Oct. 14, 2013, at the 52-year-old racetrack that sits nearly halfway between the campuses of the two schools, off Interstate 81 in Tennessee. The speedway can hold around 160,000, and organizers are hoping to break the NCAA-recognized attendance record for college football of 115,109, set last month at Michigan Stadium for Michigan-Notre Dame. Bristol Motor Speedway can do it all. The speedway is getting ready to host Major League Baseball next season.

A person with knowledge of the schedule told The Associated Press that the longtime NASCAR track will host a game between the Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds next season on Aug. 2, 2025. The person spoke Wednesday to the AP with the understanding they would remain anonymous since the schedule has yet to be released.

Officials from the track and its owner, Speedway Motorsports, have a press conference planned for tomorrow to discuss Bristol’s 2025 schedule and hopefully confirm the claim.

The track has been of one NASCAR’s most exciting venues since opening more than 60 years ago and has a history of hosting other sports besides racing.

Bristol hosted an NFL exhibition game back in 1961 between Philadelphia and Washington. The track held two college football games in consecutive weeks in 2016 in Tennessee-Virginia Tech and East Tennessee-Western Carolina.

How they will set up the field inside the half-mile track will be interesting to see.
