Days after a young boy was found dead in some southern Indiana woods, Indiana State Police revealed his body was in a suitcase, and say his cause of death is unclear.According to Sgt. Carey Huls, with state police, the child, who has not yet been identified, was found Saturday around 7:30 p.m. He was in a heavily wooded area of Washington County in southern Indiana about 80 feet off the side of the road. On Tuesday, Huls said the body was actually inside of a hard-shell suitcase with a bright and bold pattern, featuring a Las Vegas “welcome” sign.”It’s a very disturbing part of the case,” Huls said. “He obviously did not show up there by himself.”Investigators hope releasing the picture of the suitcase may help lead to more specific tips in the investigation. It’s just one clue in a case still with so many unknowns.”Once we find out who he is, that can drastically change the direction of this investigation,” Huls said. “The number one goal is finding out who this child is.”An autopsy has been completed, but police say it did not reveal a definitive cause of death. A toxicology report could take 3-6 weeks to maybe provide more answers. “Unfortunately the information from the autopsy didn’t give us that answer, hopefully the toxicology gives us more definitive answers,” Huls said.Police also still have not identified the boy. They had pinned his age to somewhere between 5 and 8 years old, but now believe it is closer to 5 due to his physical features. They described the boy as Black with a thin build, a short haircut and stand about 4 feet tall.He is believed to have died sometime within the last week, according to ISP investigators. On Monday, Huls said, “We thought possibly this was going to be something from the local area, as far as the young boy’s residence. We haven’t had any matches or anything that would answer that question, so obviously, this could be a national case.”In an effort to help identify the boy, ISP has set up a national tip line that is now active. The number people can call is 1-888-437-6432. People are also asked to call Detective Matt Busick with the Indiana State Police in Sellersburg at 812-248-4374 or 1-800-872-6743 with any information.Huls said they’ve received 200 calls so far, but none have led to the identification of the child. Huls said most of the calls referenced existing missing children’s cases that they have already looked into.

Days after a young boy was found dead in some southern Indiana woods, Indiana State Police revealed his body was in a suitcase, and say his cause of death is unclear.

According to Sgt. Carey Huls, with state police, the child, who has not yet been identified, was found Saturday around 7:30 p.m. He was in a heavily wooded area of Washington County in southern Indiana about 80 feet off the side of the road.

On Tuesday, Huls said the body was actually inside of a hard-shell suitcase with a bright and bold pattern, featuring a Las Vegas “welcome” sign.

“It’s a very disturbing part of the case,” Huls said. “He obviously did not show up there by himself.”

Investigators hope releasing the picture of the suitcase may help lead to more specific tips in the investigation.

It’s just one clue in a case still with so many unknowns.

“Once we find out who he is, that can drastically change the direction of this investigation,” Huls said. “The number one goal is finding out who this child is.”

An autopsy has been completed, but police say it did not reveal a definitive cause of death. A toxicology report could take 3-6 weeks to maybe provide more answers.
