The lawyer representing a 14-year-old Wisconsin boy accused of luring a 10-year-old girl into the woods and killing her wants the case to be shifted from adult to juvenile court.
Attorney Michael Cohen revealed during a brief Zoom appearance on Thursday in Chippewa County Circuit Court that he intends to file the formal request in the coming weeks. Anyone who is at least 10 years old and is accused of first- or second-degree homicide is considered an adult in Wisconsin’s court system.
The young suspect, identified only with his initials, CTB-P, also waived his right to preliminary hearing. He’s charged with first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of sexual assault in connection with the slaying of Iliana Peters, who also went by Lily.
Lily disappeared the night of April 24 while she rode her bike home from her aunt’s house in Chippewa Falls, according to the criminal complaint. The teen suspect later told investigators he was riding his hoverboard alongside Lily and managed to convince her to leave the trail and explore the nearby woods. When they were far enough away, he punched her, struck her with a large stick and then strangled her to death, he told authorities.
After, he sexually assaulted the body, according to the criminal complaint.
Lily’s body was found a day later and her alleged killer was arrested. He’s being held at the juvenile detention center in Cohen on $1 million cash bond.
