BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The victim of a vicious stabbing told Bloomington police officers that he and a 25-year-old woman were about to get in the shower when she suddenly struck him with a baseball ball and then began to repeatedly stab him.

Briley Shayne Turner was arrested on Sunday and charged by the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office with one count of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony, in addition to one count of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony.

According to court documents, police were called out to Kinser Flats on Sunday shortly before 7 p.m. after a neighbor heard screaming coming from a nearby apartment.

Police officers ended up busting down the door to access the apartment after hearing both a male and female screaming inside. Officers reported finding Turner lying on the couch covered in blood. But she had no wounds.

Turner’s victim was found on the bathroom floor, police said, bleeding profusely from multiple stab wounds. In the apartment, investigators found a bloody “tire plug tool with a metal spike on it” next to the sink and a bloody baseball bat.

Also found in the apartment was the blood-spattered handle of a kitchen knife, but the blade was missing.

The blade ended up being found lodged inside the victim — having broken off in the attack.

After being rushed to the hospital, doctors discovered the male victim had been stabbed at least nine times and lacerated twice. He also suffered a broken arm.

The victim eventually told police that Turner attacked him suddenly with a baseball bat when the two were about to get into the shower. She then began stabbing him all over his body.

The victim claimed the two had not been arguing and there was no reason given for the attack.

Turner was reportedly expressing strange behavior when police attempted to speak with her. She did not speak to officers and was reportedly making “jerking motions with her extremities” while moaning loudly and making whimpering noises.

Turner did reportedly make several remarks when officers first arrived at the apartment, however, including uttering, “He tried to put stuff down my throat. I don’t know what he put in my throat.”

She then began to hyperventilate.

Police said Turner continued to not speak to officers at the hospital and only shook her head no when an officer asked her to talk to him while he was transporting her to jail.

Official charges against Turner were filed on Thursday.

Court records show Turner was charged with possession of meth in 2022. She ended up pleading to lesser misdemeanor charges and serve a short 14-day stint in jail.

Turner’s substance abuse history seems to stretch back further, however, with court records revealing she’s also been hit with drug charges three other times.
