BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Officials with the city of Bloomington’s parks and recreation department announced on Thursday that it will not reschedule its Fourth of July parade.

According to a news release from the department, this decision came after deliberations with Downtown Bloomington Inc. The parade was originally canceled because of severe weather on July 4.

Officials said that the weather conditions that led to the cancelation of the parade “were deemed too hazardous to proceed.” Officials also stressed that rescheduling the parade involves “significant logistical challenges, coordinating with participants, spectators, street closures and security.”

“We understand the disappointment this decision may cause, and we share in your disappointment,” the release said. “We encourage our community to participate in other upcoming events and activities that we have planned throughout the year.

“We remain dedicated to providing a variety of opportunities for celebration and community engagement,” the release continued. “We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support. We look forward to celebrating together at future events.”
