(KELO) — A judge in western South Dakota has sentenced a 21 year old man to eight years in prison for a deadly stabbing near Keystone last summer.
Caesar Duran had entered a so-called Alford plea to second-degree manslaughter in April, meaning he doesn’t admit guilt, but acknowledges there is enough evidence against him for a conviction.
Duran says he fatally stabbed 19-year-old Tyler LaForge in self-defense back in July of 2023, believing LaForge was attempting to rob him.
Prosecutors say LaForge was unarmed.
