SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — Motorcycle engines are warming up right along with the early spring temperatures in KELOLAND.
Riding season kicks-off this weekend with events taking place at J & L Harley Davidson in Sioux Falls.
Bikers are looking forward to this year as they prepare to hit the open road.
Mason Gillespie of Brookings is looking into a possible trade-in for a brand new motorcycle.
“I was looking into maybe getting into a Road Glide or a Street Glide, maybe for the future. Just looking for now,” Gillespie said.
For Gillespie, shopping for a new bike only adds to the excitement of riding season.
“It’s like anything else, just keep riding and get on with it,” Gillespie said.
Bikers have already been logging plenty of miles this year due to the mild transition from winter to spring.
“Any chance somebody gets, they’re out there riding. I saw people riding yesterday in the rain. The roads are starting to clear out so more bikes are going to be out,” J & L Harley-Davidson co-owner Jimmy Entenman said.
J & L Harley-Davison is hosting a kick-off event on Saturday that will include a workshop on getting your motorcycle ready for the season ahead.
“It’s good to do a walk around of the motorcycle. We always encourage people to walk around, look to make sure that it’s in good operating order. Test out the headlight. Make sure that it’s functioning so that when you get out on the bike and go, you can rest assured that it’s good to go,” J & L Harley-Davidson co-owner Joe Entenman said.
You don’t need to check the calendar to know that riding season is right around the corner. Just look at all the bikes that are in the shop for maintenance.
“A lot of times in the spring we see a lot of dead batteries coming in. A lot of times, the motorcycle’s been sitting through the wintertime, it’s a good opportunity right in the spring to get them in and make sure you dump your oil,” Joe Entenman said.
Motorcycles rousted from their long winter hibernation in the garage are getting ready to roll.
“Just having a lot of fun getting out and riding bikes, that’s what it’s all about,” Jimmy Entenman said.
Activities at J & L begin Friday night with their monthly Indoor Bike Night.
That’s followed by their Ready. Set. Ride. event on Saturday.
