BLACK HILLS, S.D. (KELO) – -Ask anyone and they will tell you the Black Hills in South Dakota are beautiful.
But bikers who attended the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally last week were a little surprised by the prices; including access to Custer State Park.
“I love South Dakota and the Black Hills,” Kelli Davis said.
The Black Hills are surrounded by beauty and wildlife, including herds of buffalo and mountain goats.
There are so many things to see and do out here in the wilderness near Sylvan Lake and Pactola Reservoir.
A lot of people stop just to take pictures.
The beauty brings people back year after year.
“All the other activities and things like that, fun to hang out see people and see things,” Nicole said.
The ride through Needles Highway is a must for a lot of bikers who attend the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Kelli Davis is from North Dakota. She loves coming here to visit.
“I’ve been coming for over 20 some years,” Davis said.
But last week, she says she was caught off guard when she came to visit Custer State Park.
She doesn’t remember ever having to pay a $20 fee for just a seven day pass.
“That seems a little outrageous,” Davis said.
Others who have been here before agree.
“That does seem pretty high, seems like it was jacked up during this time,” Nicole said.
But a lot of bikers say they don’t mind paying the $20 fee, because the reward and the ride to get here is worth it.
KELOLAND News contacted Custer State Park and they told us they don’t offer a one day pass like other state parks and the $20 fee for a seven day pass has been in place for the last few years.
