For the first time since players reported for training camp this week, the Tennessee Titans took the field for practice on Wednesday.
The biggest storyline of Day 1 was no doubt 2022 first-round pick and wide receiver Treylon Burks, who participated fully in practice and was among Tennessee’s biggest standouts.
After practice, Burks also showed maturity by taking responsibility for not being ready conditioning-wise earlier this offseason.
“I would say yeah,” Burks answered when asked if he could have done more to prepare, per Paul Kuharsky. “That’s just being accountable; I should have taken a better attack on that and now that I am, you can tell a big difference.”
Also of note was the practice participation of defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons. The former first-round pick is seeking a new deal but is still participating in practice while the two sides work things out.
Now, the rest of the biggest takeaways from Day 1.
There were no notable absences on the first day of Titans training camp. Jeff Simmons practiced, as coach Mike Vrabel indicated he would.

Jeffery Simmons said he weighed in at 309. Said last year he played right around 315. Said he is not discussing his contract situation and is just focused on football in. #Titans camp

#Titans offense looked good in first practice of camp today. Ryan Tannehill was sharp. In first 7 on 7, he went deep to NWI. On second play, deep again and Treylon Burks made a full extension catch.

Jim Wyatt, Titans Online: “Tannehill couldn’t have started any better. I charted every one of his throws in the 7-on-7 and the team periods, and he was a perfect 11-of-11.”

Randy Bullock went 8-for-8 on FGs. Didn’t see distance of the first one, but he hit from 33, 37, 44, 42, 48, 50 and 43 yards.

Note: Fellow kicker Caleb Shudak did not participate, as he’s currently on the PUP list.
Wyatt: “Titans head coach Mike Vrabel announced the team’s offseason awards, and they went to the following players: Dillon Radunz, Tory Carter, Dez Fitzpatrick, Caleb Farley, Amani Hooker and DeMarcus Walker.”
Wyatt: “Cornerback Roger McCreary had the best defensive play of the day when he broke up a Woodside pass intended for receiver Cody Hollister on the sideline.”
Wyatt: “Malik Willis was a perfect 4-of-4 in the early 7-on-7, connecting with Reggie Roberson, [Kyle] Philips, tight end Thomas Odukoya and receiver Brandon Lewis.”
