The competition at left guard could be the most intriguing battle to monitor throughout training camp simply because it doesn’t appear that either candidate has the inside track.
Aaron Brewer played in 12 games last year, including five starts, but was responsible for six sacks allowed and three penalties. He was given an overall grade of 56.3, per Pro Football Focus.
To this point, the majority knock on Brewer has been that he’s undersized to play the position. However, the coaching staff seems to have complete faith in him to do the job.
“Aaron is an unbelievable athlete,” offensive line coach Keith Carter said. “So, he has a really unbelievable way to recover when he gets stuck in some bad positions. For him, it’s getting as big as he can, but not losing that part of his game. And then just being consistent from a technique standpoint. I think he’s come a long way and I am excited to see where he goes.”
As for Jamarco Jones, the former Seattle Seahawk was inked to a two-year contract in March. He’s a former fifth-round pick who has played in 36 games (seven starts).
In 2021, he didn’t allow any sacks but was credited for two penalties and an overall grade of 56.9 (PFF).
Jones is reunited with Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who helped recruit the Chicago, IL native to Ohio State. Whatever the Titans need, Jones is ready for any role.
“I’m coming in trying to help the team however I can,” Jones said, according to Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “Whatever position, whatever they need me to do, even if it’s giving a look to the defense. Whatever they need me to do, I am here to do it.”
Brewer’s superior experience in the offense definitely gives him the edge here, but this competition will be much closer than the one at right tackle will.
