HURON, S.D. (KELO) — The fifth-seeded Bennett County girls basketball team claimed the program’s second-ever state title and first since 1986 with a 71-61 win over six-seed Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Saturday night.

The Lady Warriors built the lead to 10 late in the first quarter and led by double figures the entire second half besides 15 seconds.

Reagan O’Neill scored a game-high 25 points. Peyson O’Neill followed with 18. Thomiah Poor Bear was also in double figures with 15.

Liz Boschee and Alexa Goertz tied for the team lead for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket with 15 points apiece.

Bennett County finished the year 24-2, and the Blackhawks wrapped up the season 22-4.
