BEECH GROVE, Ind. – Someone fired dozens of shots into a pair of Beech Grove apartment buildings Thursday morning, injuring a 7-year-old and a teenage girl.

According to Tom Hurrle, deputy chief of operations with the Beech Grove Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7 a.m. to Parkview Apartments in the 3600 block of Pearlbush Avenue.

Hurrle said a few dozen shots, at minimum, where fired into two apartment buildings at the location. Gunfire struck a 7-year-old girl and a teenage girl; both were taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. Hurrle said they were in stable condition. The victims are believed to be siblings.

“A few dozen, at a minimum, maybe as many as 50 rounds, were fired into the back of two different apartment buildings,” Hurrle said. “There were several other people in that one particular apartment that were uninjured.”

Numerous apartments had bullet holes in their walls after the incident. Hurrle didn’t have information on a possible motive. He did say, however, that someone spotted a white Dodge Charger or Challenger heading eastbound from the scene, although the information wasn’t confirmed.

“I’m not sure of the caliber of the spent rounds, but there are some holes in the walls of the apartments that go almost all the way through the apartment from back to front,” he said.

Hurrle said it was possible there was more than one person responsible for the shooting. There appeared to be at least two different types of weapons used.

“When you see rounds sprayed like that, it tells you that they didn’t care if they got their intended target or other people,” Hurrle said. “It was very amateur and completely reckless.”

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the Beech Grove Police Department.
