Multiple batches of Banana Boat hair and scalp sunscreen have been recalled because they contain the cancer-causing chemical benzene.

The recall is relatively limited but serious, Banana Boat manufacturer Edgewell Personal Care said in a press release. Anyone who owns the affected products should throw them out and apply for a refund.

The exact product numbers and expiration dates were included in a Food and Drug Administration announcement.

Edgewell said that Banana Boat sunscreen itself did not contain any benzene, claiming that the chemical was found in the propellant that sprays the sunscreen from cans.

Benzene has been linked to numerous cancers, including leukemia, along with bone marrow diseases and heart disease. Edgewell said it has not received an reports of people falling ill due to the sunscreen.
