While we listed Moore as one of three roster locks, his exact role on defense isn’t cemented quite yet.
Yes, he’ll play a key role on special teams, but will he be the first man off the bench if an injury occurs at safety? That remains to be seen, but he should be considered the favorite for the scraps behind Byard and Hooker, both of whom played over 90 percent of snaps last season.
The best bets to supplant Moore on the depth chart are Theo and Chris Jackson, two players who offer versatility.
Chris can play cornerback, safety, and on special teams, which is a huge asset when it comes to guys who fill out the roster. Theo played the STAR role in college (safety/linebacker hybrid), so he has experience playing all over the field, and he can contribute on special teams as well.
Another thing to keep an eye on will be who plays the role vacated by Dane Cruikshank, who did a stellar job against opposing tight ends in 2021 before moving on in free agency this offseason. Theo is someone we can envision playing that role.
As for Carter, Griffin II and Clemons, all three are longshots to make the roster and have a better chance of sticking in Nashville via the practice squad.
