One would have thought that logic and accuracy testing was conducted on all relevant equipment used in elections. They would have been wrong until Monday.
In what is being described as “a significant step forward for election integrity and voter confidence,” on Tuesday an agreement was reached to ensure that logic and accuracy testing performed by the Secretary of State will be conducted on vote center tabulation equipment assigned to specific vote centers to be used in Maricopa County elections.
The Arizona Republican Party (AZGOP) supported by the Republican National Committee (RNC) reached the agreement with the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors (MCBoS).
“I was proud to represent the Arizona Republican Party, which today obtained yet another needed win to help secure our elections. We want you to be able to cast your vote with confidence knowing that if Republicans Swamp the Vote, we can win,” said attorney for the AZGOP Arizona State Rep. Alex Kolodin.
Previously, under the oversight of former Secretary of State Katie Hobbs and now Secretary Adrian Fontes, only backup tabulators were subjected to this critical testing process, both before and after elections — a practice that deviated from the statute’s requirements for randomized, blind testing within a specific time window. The AZGOp says this oversight “raised concerns about compliance with state laws and transparency in the election process.”
The groups argue that the negotiations resulted in the “return to proper procedure, ensuring that the equipment used in the field will undergo thorough logic and accuracy testing.”
The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 in favor of this critical oversight with Democrat Supervisor Steve Gallardo voting “no.”
“This agreement represents a unified effort among the Arizona Republican Party, the Maricopa County Republican Committee, and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to restore and reinforce trust in our elections,” said AZGOP Chair Gina Swoboda. “We are grateful for the collaboration and commitment from all parties involved. Together, we stand united in our mission to promote transparency and safeguard the confidence of every Arizona voter.”
The AZGOP says this “positive step” should reassure “voters that the equipment used to count their votes will be rigorously tested and verified ahead of November’s general election.”
