Our 6th year, 23rd week.
BICKERING OVER BUDGET CONTINUES – JUNE 30 DEADLINE IN DANGER OF BEING MISSED
The specter of a state government shutdown has become closer to reality over the last few days, as it becomes evident that we have three entities instead of two negotiating the budget. It appears that the legislature has split into two units and no longer presents a unified front against a hostile governor. The notion of a failure to reach an agreement before the deadline of June 30 was reinforced by a recent House Press release that reads in part:
“A continuation budget is being drafted now. It will provide the funding needed to keep state operations open past June 30 and give us the time we need to continue negotiations on other balanced spending proposals”.
This action, if it happens, will be very similar to the loathsome continuing resolutions that are common at the federal level.
ACTIVITY SUMMARY:
The governor acted on 1 bill.
The House acted on 12 bills, in addition to their version of the budget bills.
The Senate acted on 21 bills, in addition to their version of the budget bills.
