SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Augustana University’s campus is still fairly quiet right now.
But that all changed this weekend.
“It’s basically buzzing, the whole campus is,” Augustana Senior Elizabeth Toso said.
The move-in day for new students is set for Saturday.
“We’re really excited. Augustana continues to grow. We’ve seen a nearly 20 percent increase in our first-year class compared to a year ago, so we’ll have a great group of first-year students, but also retention is really strong,” Augustana Associate Vice President for Enrollment Adam Heinitz said.
The University of Sioux Falls is also gearing up for the start of the fall semester.
“We’ve actually been able to have pretty consistent enrollment over the last few years, and it looks like we’re going to be right in the same ballpark this year, so we’re excited to welcome a really good incoming group of students between our freshman and transfer students,” USF Director of Admissions Kyle Simons said.
Saturday is also the big day for new students on USF’s campus.
USF sophomores Rei Ogden and Toso both have roles in welcoming students to their universities.
“You want them to feel welcome here, honestly. I kind of just think back to my first year and how I was treated then, and what really made me feel or desire to want to come back and I just think why wouldn’t I want them to feel that as well,” Ogden said.
“I am so excited for all the events we have coming up. The first football game is going to be so much fun. Viking Days, I just can’t wait,” Toso said.
USF starts classes on Tuesday, and Augie will kick off fall courses on Wednesday.
