On Friday, Aug. 12, Samuel Hartman, an inmate at the East Arkansas Regional Unit, Brickys Prison, escaped from while on assignment with the field maintenance crew  located on Arkansas Highway 79.

A man convicted of rape escaped from a work crew Friday, Aug. 12, authorities report.

Samuel Hartman, an inmate at the East Arkansas Regional Unit, Brickys Prison, escaped while on assignment with the field maintenance crew located on State Highway 79.

Authorities believe he could be in Mississippi.

“According to the Tunica County Sheriff’s Department, Samuel Paul Hartman, who escaped from The East Arkansas Regional Unit Friday morning, may have crossed the Mississippi River in a boat,” Darkhorse Press, reported.

Hartman is serving a life sentence for rape in Franklin County and has been in Arkansas Division of Correction custody since Dec. 2, 2013.

Court records state Hartman took a plea deal and was convicted of rape at the age of 26 in Franklin County on November 27, 2013. He appealed his conviction to the state’s Supreme Court but was denied.
