On Sunday, President Joe Biden announced that he was ending his bid for reelection. Reaction from Arizona’s politicians and pundits was swift.

“If anyone’s wondering, under ARS 16-344, the new Dem nominees for President & VP will qualify to appear on the general election ballot in AZ so long as the state party chair submits nomination documents for presidential electors to the Secretary of State by August 9, 2024 at 5pm,” tweeted Bo Dul, formerly with the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office (SoS) and General Counsel to Governor Katie Hobbs. “And to clarify, per SOS procedures, the official designation of each national party’s nominees can come later — by August 25. But PRESIDENTIAL ELECTOR nomination docs must be filed by Aug. 9 at 5pm per ARS 16-344, even if the national party committee hasn’t finalized nominees yet.”
