Good afternoon, Chicago.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot laid out a $127.9 million budget shortfall today, marking by far the smallest deficit of her time in office as she campaigns for a second term.

The Tribune’s Gregory Pratt and A.D. Quig report the city is also looking at a $42.7 million property tax increase as part of her policy tying Chicago’s annual property tax hike to the increase in consumer prices.

Meanwhile, another candidate has entered the Chicago mayor’s race. South Side Ald. Sophia King has announced her run. This is who’s in, who’s out and who’s undecided in the mayor’s race.
